  • If you have unwanted facial or body hair.
  • The best candidates have dark, course hair and light skin.

    INTENDED RESULT
  • Some patients may experience permanent hair removal.
  • Although some patients will not experience complete hair removal, the hair re-growing will be lighter and thinner.
  • Multiple treatments will be required to obtain optimum results.
  • Patients considering this treatment should not have a tan. A small percentage of patients will not respond to this treatment.

    PROCEDURE DESCRIPTION
  • A numbing cream (EMLA) can be applied to the area prior to the treatment.
  • The hairs should be about 1/8 -1/4 inch in length.
  • The laser will feel like a hot snap on the skin.
  • A cooling gel may be applied to the skin to soothe the treated area.

    RECUPERATION AND HEALING
  • There is frequently some redness and swelling in the area immediately after the procedure.
  • Although rare, scabbing or blistering may occur, but will disappear with time.
  • You must protect the area from sunlight after the treatment.

    OTHER OPTIONS
  • Other options to remove hair include waxing, shaving, depilatory creams and electrolysis.

    INSURANCE GUIDELINES

    LASER TREATMENT

    WHO IS A CANDIDATE?
  • If you have blood vessels on various parts of the body including the face, neck, trunk and legs.
  • If you have red birthmarks, scars, tattoos, brown spots and stretch marks.
  • If you have unwanted hair on your body.

    INTENDED RESULT
  • Photoderm is used to diminish vascular lesions on the body.
  • It is used to take the red out of scars, as well as to soften them and to decrease the size.

    PROCEDURE DESCRIPTION
  • This procedure uses light to target the red blood cells within the vessels and heats them up.
  • This treatment causes injury to the blood vessel wall and causes the blood vessel to close down.
  • It may take several treatments for the area to resolve.
  • With each treatment, significant improvement should be noted.
  • The Photoderm laser may also be used to stimulate collagen growth in depressed scars.

    RECUPERATION AND HEALING
  • There is a small risk of a scab or a bruise resulting from the treatment, but this should resolve over 3-5 days.
  • The skin will be slightly pink when you leave, which is easily covered with make-up. Sun exposure must be avoided, as this may intensify hyperpigmentation.

    OTHER OPTIONS
  • Depending upon the severity of the condition you are wishing to treat, other options to improve the appearance of blood vessels, birthmarks, scars, stretch marks, and unwanted hair are glycolic acid treatments, prescription strength creams as well as Microdermabrasion (in some cases).

  • The patient is responsible for payment.
